Head of Department / Faculty Vacancies




Assistant Headteacher

Leadership range L12 – L17 (fringe)
Required for post May half term or September 2024

Due to the expansion of the existing team, we are seeking to appoint two colleagues to join the Senior Leadership Team at Beechwood contributing to the ongoing development and improvement in all that we do. Head of Faculty – Technology

MPS/UPS (Fringe) + TLR 1b
Required April/September 2024

We have an exciting and challenging opportunity for a new role within our school of Head of Faculty in the Technology area. The successful candidate will build on the work that has taken place within the department and will have a direct role in transforming the prospects of its learners for the future. You will build on the subjects of Technology, Art and Food Technology already present on the timetable and develop the area to bring further specialisms of potentially Engineering, Textiles, Fashion, 3D Art and Hospitality and Catering.


Head of Faculty – MFL and EAL

We are seeking to appoint a gifted communicator with high levels of personal proficiency in French and Spanish. The successful candidate will be a dynamic, imaginative and rigorous teacher with significant experience and a proven record of success in terms of student academic outcomes. Imaginative and innovative you will be relentlessly enthusiastic in the promotion of language both within the formal academic curriculum and outside of it. By capitalising on the cultural and social diversity of our student body, you will engender a love of languages and of the cultures underlying them across the whole school community.


Head of PE

Required September 2024

Working Hours – Full time

We are seeking to appoint a well-qualified and enthusiastic Head of PE based at Herschel Grammar School. PE is part of the Creative Arts Faculty. Pupils have core PE lessons for 2 hours per week and we offer GCSE and A Level PE as well as timetabled Sixth Form wellbeing which includes physical activity.  The successful applicant will lead a team of well-qualified and supportive PE staff where the standard teaching contact time is 84%.  We also offer an employee assistance scheme including medical benefits.  


Second in Department for Maths

MPS/UPS (Fringe) + TLR 2c
Required for Easter / September 2024

We are seeking to appoint a dynamic, innovative and highly effective Maths’s specialist for the role of Second in Department. You will assist the Head of Department in continuing to drive up standards and assist in the day-to-day operation of the department. This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious colleague who will be able to work effectively within a team, have the ability to assist in leading the team and will be able to secure improvements rapidly with excellent outcomes for our young people.


Director of Studies (Head of Year)

Teaching Vacancies




Teacher of Physics

Required September 2024
Salary Scale MPS/UPS £31,350 – £47,839
We will consider flexible working patterns

We wish to appoint a well-qualified Teacher of Physics to join a high performing faculty. The ability to teach to A Level would be an advantage as this is a popular subject. The majority of GCSE students take triple science. The vacancy would suit either an ECT or experienced individual to whom we can offer a range of development opportunities.


Teacher of English

We will also consider applications for a part time role – 0.6 FTE

Beechwood School is looking for a qualified teacher who can teach English to KS3, KS4 and KS5 students looking to join our English department in April/September 2024. This is an exciting time to join the department as we now offer a knowledge-rich curriculum that is sequenced to support all students to retain and use knowledge. The school supports all teachers to become quickly established through our instructional coaching programme for new staff.


Teacher of Food Technology

MPS/UPS (Fringe)
Required for April 2024 – August 2024

We have an exciting opportunity for a Teacher of Food Technology with excellent subject knowledge to join our team. You will provide high standards of teaching promoting a positive learning environment in the department and will be passionate about the subject. You will be creative, imaginative and an excellent team player. We have extensive facilities within the department which includes a large Hospitality and Catering kitchen.


Part-Time Teacher of MFL

Required for a fixed term starting September 2024 to July 2025
Salary Scale MPS Fringe

Required for September 2024 a well-qualified teacher of MFL to join an established and experienced faculty 3 days a week (0.6) Thursdays and Fridays plus one other day (to be decided).
The candidate must be able to teach French to GCSE level and would preferably be able to teach Spanish to KS3 or above.


Teacher of Science (Chemistry/Physics)

Required for April / September 2024

Beechwood School is looking for a qualified teacher who can teach Chemistry or Physics up to A Level to join our Science department in April/September 2024. The science department offers A-levels in the 3 sciences and BTEC in applied Science. This is therefore an opportunity to teach up to A-Levels.


Teacher of Mathematics

MPS/UPS (Fringe)
Required for April / September 2024

Beechwood School is looking for a qualified teacher who can teach Mathematics to KS3, KS4 and KS5 students to join our Mathematics department in April/September 2024. Non Teaching Vacancies




Cover Supervisor

Term time + inset + one additional week
32.5 hours per week
Actual salary £18,113 – £19,419 (depending on experience) inclusive of Outer Fringe Allowance
Required as soon as possible

We are looking for an efficient, enthusiastic individual with excellent communication skills to supervise whole classes so that any short-term absences of teachers are covered. Cover Supervisors will give instructions for the lesson, as provided by the teacher, and keep students on task, whilst maintaining good order.


Inclusion Centre Lead

MPS/UPS/Unqualified (Fringe)
Required for Easter 2024
Application is also open to non-teaching staff

We are seeking to appoint an experienced, inspirational and creative colleague to run an Inclusion Centre within our school for young people with SEMH needs.


Design and Technology Technician

22.5 hours per week (3 days per week)
Term time + inset (one week) + one week during the school holidays/after school
Start date: As soon as possible
Salary level 5 SCP 13 £27,919 inclusive of fringe allowance
Actual Salary £15,018 inclusive of fringe allowance
